ARTS & CRAFTS

SCHOOL

QUITO- ECUADOR

2018

For my architecture degree's final investigation project I decided to design an arts & crafts school in Quito in order to give value to the crafted hands in the country. Ecuador holds in its culture many strong indigenous crafts traditions that are disappearing because they are not taught. Through architecture, I wanted to create a reminder of the arts &    crafts in the capital. From this reason emerges the idea of introducing a public element that attracts more users to the school other than just students. In the project I introduce a craft market  that replaces the old one that already exists in the same location. The project starts defining a platform-tower typology that adapts to the urban context, giving to the platform the school program and  creating a student residence in the tower. The market will be located on the first floor under the school platform making it permeable for the pedestrians to cross under the building.
